In setting the records straight on the issue of Book Presentation on the missing Chibok School Girls by Mrs. Aisha BUHARI written by Lauretta Onochie
I do not know what the fuss is, about the Book Presentation by the Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari on the anniversary of the abduction of the Chibok girls.
I was at the event and the facts are being misrepresented to the nation by one who was not remotely close to the venue, Ms. Bukky Shonibare of the #BringBackOurGirls. I had responded to her on Twitter setting the records. That she did not correct herself is a pointer that her only aim was mischief.
#BBOG is doing a fantastic job of advocacy for the return of the missing girls. So is the Murtala Mohammed Foundation, the wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari and millions of other groups and individuals across the world.
The Wife of the President wrote an Academic text book which was launched to render support to the families of the Missing Chibok girls and the parents of the massacred Buniyadi boys. About a dozen Chibok parents were in attendance. So were some parents from Buniyadi.
All proceeds from the book on the day as well as all future proceeds, would go to both the Chibok parents and the Buniyadi parents.
Advocacy for the return of our Chibok girls doesn’t have to be one-size-fit-all. It’s not the exclusive right of any group or persons. The important thing is that we all want our girls home and alive. The goal is the same.
On that day, some parents stayed in Chibok at the event organised by the Murtala Mohammed Foundation. Some Chibok parents hosted the three Ministers from the Federal Government in Chibok. Some Chibok Parents came to join the #BBOG group in Abuja. Some went to the Wife of the President’s book launch. There were many other outlets across the nation.
It’s ridiculous that if an advocacy does not submit to the #BBOG format, then it’s wrong. What the whole world wants is for the girls to be rescued and brought home to their loved ones. That’s the point. The return of our missing girls weighs heavily on our hearts, including President Buhari and his wife, especially as parents. How we contribute to the advocacy differs. Again, It’s not a franchise and so not the exclusive reserve of any particular group. We all must therefore, learn to respect and accommodate each others style.
Again, the goal is the same. We all want our girls back.
May God speed up the day they return home.
